1) I think the reason of Turkey's military operation in Gare was not primarily saving the hostages (soldiers, intelligence officers and civilians). I believe Turkish government wanted to legitimize future action to ban Kurdish HDP and further demonize Kurdish movement in Turkey.
2) According to my analysis, it is highly unlikely that PKK would have executed the hostages without this military operation since PKK wanted to use the hostages as leverage in negotiations with Turkish government. The primary interest of PKK was a hostage exchange.
3) PKK had been keeping the hostages over 5 years when Turkey started the Gare-operation. HDP requested the Turkish government numerous times to negotiate with the PKK to save the hostages.
4) Due to the fact that Turkey has been keeping >10 Kurdish lawmakers including Selahattin Demirtas as well as >100 Kurdish elected local representatives & mayors in jail over years, it's hard to say Kurds can express themselves politically in TR. All political ways are blocked.
5) Turkey gives a clear message to Kurds:
"Accept assimilation."
This has been the main Republican position since 1923.
I believe that as long as the unitary state model exists, Kurds' equality and their fundamental cultural rights will never be acknowledged by Ankara.
6) Both the international community and Turkish democratic forces should reconsider their position regarding Turkey's unitary state model & Kurdish issue.
