I had a friend who was a butch lesbian who was attacked by 3 men with baseball bats because her girlfriend held her hand in public. She spent weeks in the hospital. This is bigotry.
I had a friend who at 14 was shipped off to a mental hospital and given daily shock therapy every time the psychiatrist showed her a picture of a naked woman. She endured this for 18 months; this is bigotry.
I knew a gay man who was raised as a Mormon who was kickers out of his house at 16 and every event he ever attended within the Mormon church was erased to delete him from his own history, his own religion. This is bigotry.
I was stalked by a former manager and crank called daily for over a year and told I was a freak of nature and he was watching me for the perfect time to attack and rape me straight! This is bigotry.
