Sinjar Mountain is not another Qandil and will never be & this whole propaganda machine portraying a different picture with aim to facilitate Turkish incursion is just plain wrong. First, Iraqi forces are all over the mountain. A general in Iraqi army is the commander. /1
Second, Sinjar region is a small mountain range, not a huge hideout as Qandil or Afghan Mountains. Thirdly, Yazidis of Iraqi are not attached naturally to PKK ideology, while most are grateful to their help, not necessarily they buy into group’s narrative. /2
The risk to Sinjar is that it will remain a battleground which could never stabilize, a result that victims of genocide will be paying its price. Thess conflicts can drag on for years & ultimately our people are the only real victims here. /3
It is true to say that PMF is the strongest force standing today against Turkish incursion to Sinjar. This is a good position regardless to what I think about PMF’s general strategy. Turkey will turn Sinjar to another Afrin ruled by Islamists, a result we can’t live with./4
KRG is an important stakeholder, but KRG should not align with Turkey on Sinjar. KRG should reject Turkish operations because ultimately these operations will weaken KRG. They should remember, to Erdogan, all Kurds are Risk. /5
Because KRG is an important stakeholder, the Sinjar agreement does provide a widow of opportunity for Sinjar to become cooperative environment for Baghdad/Erbil. If we can get it right, everyone can be comfortable & people of this region can find peace and prosperity too. /6
Iraqis needs unity to face foreign threats, without unity, everyone is vulnerable. Just like rule of physics controlling chemical reactions, equations can only stabilize when there is chemical equilibrium. Iraq need to reach balance where all actors feel okay with their state. /7
