A Valentines Day thread for you.

A few years ago I was going through some pretty awful stuff. I was, in a word, broken.

Seeing this, a friend of mine invited me to join her for a week in Florence. She’d booked an apartment, all I needed to do was pay my airfare 1/
I was living in London do it wasn’t too hard to scrape together, so off I went.

Which is how, on Valentine’s Day that year, I found myself standing in front of the Birth of Venus in the Uffizi art museum. 2/
As I stared at the painting, it occurred to me that the water and waves were / are a great representation of the subconscious mind. Real love is birthed from ourselves in the purest sense.

In other words, if you want to know love, you need to know and love yourself. 3/
So that’s when I decided that I would be my own Valentine

I left the museum smiling, knowing I’d just taken my first real step towards recovery

It strikes me, though, that wherever you are in life - partnered or not- being your own Valentine is a great idea 4/
So, all this is to say: happy Valentine’s Day!

I hope you find ways to celebrate and love yourselves along with all the other loves in your life.
