2 - Fred opts to go sideways again. Donny as you can see is now running back onside because he made the run but didn't receive it.

1 - Telles on the ball - Donny arms wide calling for the ball. Telles chooses to go down the line to Rashford.
2 - Rashford to Matic. Donny now makes a 2nd run inside calling for the ball from Matic which he fails to receive.

This graphic shows that when Donny received the ball, majority of what he did was 1 and 2 touch.
This could be down to 2 reasons
A - His playing style
B - Lack of confidence
For me it's a combination of both.

Fernandes graphic
When Fernandes was on the field, he also played 1 and 2 touch but he also carried the ball more. This is where Donny can improve. Donny needs to turn with the ball when he does get it, and take more risk. He's fully well capable of this.

My thoughts!
He needs time to adapt to the league/ team. The team also needs to learn about his style of play. Intelligent footballer - possession based - play combinations and goal threat. We should also utilize him at no' 8 to play to his strengths. He's fine - Patience.
