With focus of on enhancing ease in living & improving urban landscape, huge investments have been made in TN by my Ministry in last 6 years.

These include central assistance, State/ City contributions, individual investments & PPPs under various missions/ schemes.

Under AMRUT, works worth over ₹12,500 cr have been taken up on water/ sewer systems & accessible green parks. Over 6.5 lakh water & nearly 14 lakh sewer connections have given, around 4 lakh street lights turned LED etc.

Chennai already has its own. Various works impacting ease of living like smart roads, smart park/public space, cycle/pedestrian pathways, solar systems, public grievances redressal system etc are in place.

Under SBM, all 664 cities are ODF, over 250 are ODF+ & balance are under scrutiny to become so. All cities are now trying to become ODF++ & attain 3 Star Garbage Free City ratings. State’s garbage processing is 70%, more than national level.

Under PMAY-U, State has got 100% of its demand of 7 lakhs sanctioned, 6.67 lakhs have been grounded for construction & 3.7 lakhs completed/ delivered to beneficiaries. State has got maximum queries among States for construction of ARHC of model-2. This could go to around 35,000.
Light House Project is moving very swiftly with full support of State Govt. Under PM SVANidhi Scheme, against target of 2.62 lakhs, over 2.7 lakhs applications have been filed, over 93,000 sanctioned & over 45,000 working capital delivered to street vendors.

Under DAY-NULM, State has formed nearly 73,000 SHGs, nearly 2 lakh micro-enterprises set up, 54 City Livelihood Centres set up to promote SHGs’s products. Products have been/ are getting promoted through Flipkart & Amazon e- commerce Portals.

Under Metro, Chennai city will have 54 km metro with over 3 lakh per day passengers operational & another 119 km under construction. Proposals for MetroLite & MetroNeo for many cities like Coimbatore, Madurai etc are under preparation.
RERA is functioning well in the State with Authority, Tribunal, AO, Web Portal i.e. all in place.

Overall, State has done fairly well in investing in cities to provide ease in living to its citizens.

I discussed preparatory activities for Jal Jeevan Mission-Urban.
Also discussed SBM 2.0 & City Bus Augmentation to get them prepared for implementation announced by Hon’ble FM in budget speech focusing on speed, scale, quality & sustainability.
Discussed with them strategy to take smart cities experiences to all cities/ town in the State.
