I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again... one knee set ups are not for everyone and there are several variables that will dictate when and if you use one.
With that said, every time a catcher misses a block from a one knee set up, the haters come out and say

“If the catcher was in a traditional stance they would have made that block.”
That is obviously not the case (see video). Catchers can miss blocks from a traditional set up just like they do from a one knee.

In my opinion, the majority of the time a catcher misses a block, it is because they were not prepared mentally. It’s not a case of being lazy, it’s usually a case of losing focus.
Regardless of set up, if there is a chance you may need to block, the number one most important thing is to be prepared mentally.
No fear and anticipation are key. If we’re in “blocking mode” and are anticipating the ball to be in the dirt, we’ll adjust our set up accordingly.

We’ll react quicker and move quicker. We hope for the best and are prepared for the worst.
When you don’t prepare mentally and don’t adjust your set up accordingly, a lot of times it will result in being late and in a wild pitch... like in this video.

The bottom line is this, whatever set up you decide to use, stay focused and expect.
