Shrek 2 is the superior Shrek. It's an allegory for the disconnect between transness and the institution of the nuclear family. Also, it's funnier
Also it's about how imperialism is evil but that's another conversation for a smarter person to have
ok so literally right off the bat they would rather literally lock her away (conversion therapy parallel, using straightness as a way to save her from otherness) than accept the fact that she is not a "regular princess." this is honestly so heavy handed lmao
Prince Charming is an egg. This doesn't have to do with the rest of the allegory, it's just true. Look at her. That is a woman.
They aren't hurt anymore when other people think they're freaks, in fact they think it's kind of funny
When they come back from their honeymoon and donkey immediately starts third wheeling.... I'm donkey
Naively thinking her parent, the literal king and queen, will care more about her happiness than appearance, but Shrek knows better. Something something class divide in the trans community hello!
parents*
he's been "out" for a long time but she just "transitioned" recently and still hasn't realized/ come to terms with the fact that her transness is going to be a huge obstacle in terms of achieving what she was brought up to aspire to (traditional family)
or rather that it's not something to aspire to at all
"Hello, they locked you in a tower!" "That was for my own good" in denial about the fact that her "perfect" family has never been perfect at all, is going to have to see it from another outsiders perspective
Maybe I’ll do more later all of a sudden I can’t focus on anything and nothing is interesting to me. In a cool way though :)
Ok to wrap this up, at the end of Shrek 2 Fionas dad (the king) has to sacrifice his attachment to respectability politics in order for Fiona to be happy. There you go!
