Now that I am awake with my coffee, let me tell you guys what happened during the pro-democracy protest in Bangkok yesterday. ไปชงกาแฟมา แล้วผมจะเล่าให้ฟัง #ม็อบ13กุมภา
I have arrived around 3 pm and the organizers were already setting up with volunteer guards positioning at the back of the McDonald's near the democracy monument. #ม็อบ13กุมภา
The first person I spotted was Loong Hunn who told the press that he is being charged for receiving illegal donations. The activist said he only use them to buy paints and props for his activism since the crackdown of the Redshirts in 2010. #ม็อบ13กุมภา
Ratsadon’s @mike_rayong told the press that they were there to protest against the lese-majeste law and to demand for the government to release protest-leaders, including Penguin and Anon, who are being detained without bail for the allege violation of the law. #ม็อบ13กุมภา
This was the first time I spotted the homemade shields that the volunteer guards were hoping to shield them from rubber bullets. The police said that they will begin to use them after the previous rally at Pathumwan Police Station. #ม็อบ13กุมภา
The police have invited themselves to the rally and then shouted at the protesters to go home because they were breaking the law. They could have done it from a safer distance. #ม็อบ13กุมภา
The police tactic of being passive-aggressive did the trick as the protestors got angry and chased them away from the monument. #ม็อบ13กุมภา
The situation calmed down after the police left & that was when I first spotted the cloth. They chose red as it is the color of “nation” on the Thai flag. “Red is the color of patriots who fought for democracy, not the color of nation haters as they said”. #ม็อบ13กุมภา
The red cloth on the ground was an unusual sight indeed. The pro-democracy protestors have put up a white one on the monument last year but this time it is a symbolic step up to chose red instead. #ม็อบ13กุมภา #ยกเลิก112
Eveything was peaceful at this point around 4 pm. The protestors have taken one side of the monument while traffic was still passing on the other side of the road with minimal police presence. #ม็อบ13กุมภา
Some of the protestors already got to the inside of the monument to put up signs of protest against the lese-majeste law and to demand the release of Penguin, Anon, Somyot and Morlum Bank. #ม็อบ13กุมภา

. @mike_rayong told the protestors that there will be no withdrawal order coming from him today. A sign of things to come but in the end, other protest leaders were calling for calm and Mike kept his words. #ม็อบ13กุมภา
A mini-survey at protest sites are becoming more common. These asked for people to name a problem that needs to fix right away and what should “good politicians” do. #ม็อบ13กุมภา
As the sun was setting, the protestors began to remove barriers away from the Democracy Monument. #ม็อบ13กุมภา
Protestors began to remove the small plants from the monument. They said the monument is for the people, not for one person. #ม็อบ13กุมภา
Mike said the government’s funding to put up these plants at the monument after the protestors have already removed it last year could have been used to provide more funding for covid-relief measures instead. #ม็อบ13กุมภา

. @mike_rayong answered why they have to remove these plants. “To make space for the people to protest and if the government want to make this place look nice, they should make sure that this country is a democracy more than decorating it with these plants”. #ม็อบ13กุมภา

Protestors used the BMA sign which says that the monument is “under maintenance” as a protest sign instead against the else-maheste law instead. #ม็อบ13กุมภา
Protestors were cheering as one of the protest leaders said that they will drape the monument with the red cloth full of messages against Prayut’s government and the lese-majeste law. #ม็อบ13กุมภา #ยกเลิก112
Then comes the 6 pm national anthem with the three-finger salute for democracy. #ม็อบ13กุมภา
