People seem to like this. You know where Econ PhDs regularly do qualitative research? The Urban Institute and similar peer organizations. My first site visit I took notes for an MIT Econ PhD. What’s stopping the rest of you? Your tenure committee I guess.
If you’re an economist and you’ve done qualitative research tell me about it - I’m interested in hearing about it.
I primarily do what’s called “implementation research” along with causal stuff, which means I do semi structured interviews with training staff, partners, and participants to understand how programs work, experiences of trainees, and determinants of completion, wages, and hiring.
