Let's dig a little deeper on this.

This all started with a lady by the name of Helen Kane. If you've ever seen a picture of Kane, you can see she looks JUST LIKE BETTY BOOP.

The resemblance is mad stupid.

Well, Kane sued the animation studio that she said stole her image. https://twitter.com/ouijney/status/1360691062541479937
Here is Helen Kane.
So, Helen Kane sues the animation studio, Fleischer Studios for TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY K. That's like ...I don't know how inflation works but this was in the 30s.

So a couple billion?

IDK.
So you've got this woman who seems like she has a case (she probably did) where she states Fleischer Studios stole her image. Originally the characters was a dog, and was changed into a human who...boom bam bap, below right?
ANYWAYS, you've got this big animation studio with the money and resources to do some digging.

So while Helen and her team is building this case about the image steal, Fleischer Studio's team is locating people.
Namely a young African American dancer and entertainer by the name Baby Esther. They find her manager, Lou Bolton.
Lou Bolton CLAIMS that he saw Kane at some of Baby Ester's performances and she stole her style.

Kane swings back with testimony from others, including music scholars people, showing the evolvement of her "baby voice" and claimed that Fleischer fabricated everything.
Fleischer Studio had no REAL evidence that Helen Kane stole from Baby Esther, and neither did Baby Ester's manager.

Fleischer Studio included evidence of like 6 other women who sounded JUST LIKE Kane.

There was no jury. The court ruled against her in a trial that lasted 2 wks.
Years later, Fleischer Studioslater admitted to using Kane as their model for Betty Boop.

Before his death, cartoonist Grim Natwick admitted he had designed a young girl based upon a photo of Kane.
This trial is the source of the rumor that Betty Boop was inspired by Baby Esther.
Also mentioning this: Baby Esther was born in 1918. Which would make her around 12 years old during the trail.

Wherever ya'll are getting this picture? I don't know who that white lady is. It ain't Esther Jones.
This beautiful brown skin baby? She dropped out of the spotlight as a young teenager.

Now if we want to talk about Esther Jones impact? We can. Because she was an INTERNATIONAL star, okay, honey?
Esther Jones was rarely called Baby Esther, most known as the "Miniature Florence Mills", as Esther had started her career impersonating Florence Mills.

Florence Mills was noted for her "light, bright" voice and her use of wordless vocalizations such as "too-ty-tooty-too".
Esther got her start doing her Florence Mills thing, but then she grew!

She toured Europe, sangin for kings and queens, Spain, France, Germany, Sweden, all them. Baby she performed at the Moulin Rouge, and they called her a Mini Josephine Baker.
Toured Rio de Janeiro, took on racial issues, came back to America, danced for Cab Calloway.

She was doing it all.

Then she just...stopped in September 1934. She would have been 16 at the time.

Esther Jones is SO much bigger than this Betty Boop conspiracy theory, ya'll.
