One of the really sick things that's developed within the culture over the last 10 years is the progressive disciplinarian obsession with 'learning' via humiliating defeat in order for ppl to 'know their place' within the hierarchy of sentiment https://twitter.com/mattwallaert/status/1360612569308831746
I have no idea why any father would want his daughter to 'learn the lesson' that her being outcompeted by someone with a physical strength advantage is just the Natural Moral Order, and that the alternative would make her an 'oppressor'
Reminder that every single one of these progressive 'teaching moments', regardless of who it's aimed at, can be reduced to 'lower your expectations'
Behind the sentimentality of 'learning to lose' there's that familiar dichotomy between 'childish entitlement' and 'mature compliance'. It's good for the girl to learn that deference to procedure is 'more important' than her individual win https://twitter.com/PYeerk/status/1360298193708326913
'Winning' in general seems faintly subversive. The progressive is uncertain of its 'wholesomeness' and doesn't really believe that victory (even small victories) can provide moments of transcendence
Ofc, learning to lose is important- but this is meaningless without a fair opportunity for victory. Because the progressive 'doesn't believe' in 'the game itself' in a quasi-atheistic way, he glosses Winning as 'selfish self-interest' and Losing as 'acquiescence to rules'
'Acquiescing to rules' is actually how you 'win' the 'progressive game'. Therefore, you must 'learn to take pride in losing'- it shows that you don't have ideas above your station, that you're willing to 'stand back', 'decentre yourself', 'make space', 'sit with discomfort' etc
In the progressive imagination, 'wanting to Win' makes you an oppressor because you are 'taking up visibility'. At this point, concerns abt 'gender id' are simply a convenient alibi. I promise you- there is no 'Win state' he would truly accept https://twitter.com/mattwallaert/status/1360617776960794624
