18 reasons to love @NickKyrgios this Valentine’s Day thread ❤️
1) He’s amazingly talented. Kyrgios is a former world junior number one and won the Australian Boys Open in 2013 without dropping a set. In 2013, he also topped the ITF junior world rankings and won the singles title at the Australian Open Junior Championship the same year.
2) He’s a king slayer. He is the only active player ever to have defeated the big three – Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic – in his first meeting with them.
3) He started the @foundation_nk to provide support and access to sporting facilities for kids and young people doing it rough in Canberra and soon to be in Melbourne. He regularly visits kids’ hospitals and did plenty of virtual hospital visits during lockdown.
4) Despite the relentless negative coverage and racist commentary, he powers on. The head of Olympics said, “He doesn’t really understand what it means to be an Australian Olympian.” He replied by posting about her finishing 14th-place at the Sydney Games in 2000. Her response:
5) He’s a full time good guy. He helped push a woman’s car all the way home after he saw her broken down on the ride of the road coming back from training. https://twitter.com/simonjourno/status/1121304878381355008
6) He stands up to racism. Dawn Fraser told him that, “If they don't like it, go back to where their fathers or their parents came from.”

When Dawn got an order of Australia, he famously Tweeted a TV clip about it with the caption, “Racist tho” https://twitter.com/nickkyrgios/status/1006118742504292353
7) During lockdown, he was doing personal deliveries of thousands of dollars of groceries to people in need around Canberra. He also put an open call out on his Instagram saying anyone doing it rough could come to him for food or a place to stay.
8) During lockdown, while some tennis players decided to keep touring, he famously didn’t. He didn’t play the US Open and posted a video saying, “I’m sitting out for the people, for my Aussies, for the hundreds & thousands of Americans who have lost their lives. For all of you.”
9) He literally had a Pepsi part way through his mammoth 5-setter against Thiem at the Australian Open.
10) He absolutely loves his family and still lives with them. They’re involved in all parts of his life, including the management of the NK Foundation. When he plays the Australian Open, the entire family comes along to watch and support him (and bring along his dogs too).
11) Kyrgios is a founding contributor of the athlete direct publishing website ‘AthletesVoice.’ Which promises, “No beat-ups. No clickbait. No agendas.” It has the slogan, “The human behind the headline.” https://www.athletesvoice.com.au/
12) He gives the best and most honest conferences. When a journo at Wimbledon asked him if he regretted going to the pub the night before his Nadal match he replied, “No. You look way too excited to ask that question. You must have a really boring life.” https://twitter.com/_justinstevens_/status/1146905038809255936
13) While he loves crowd support and participation, he doesn’t like the “Aussie Aussie Aussie Oi Oi Oi” chant. He shushed the crowd when they’ve chanted it at the Australian Open match against Thiem.
14) He’s an absolute sweetheart. When asked what was the one thing he couldn’t live without he said “cuddles.” 🥺
15) In 2020, Kyrgrios was the first player to getting the ball rolling on donations for the Black Summer bushfires and raised $90k.

This year, he partnered with Ol Del Paso to donate 100 meals to @FoodbankAus every time an Australian player hits the court and 300 if they win!
16) I mean ❤️
17) Everyone loves Nicholas! 1.8mil people tuned into watching his Australian Open match against Thiem. A record 2.4mil were glued to his 2020 Australian Open belter against Nadal, making it the most watch match of the 2020 Open. https://twitter.com/9comms/status/1360352703356968961
