The ability to decelerate and STOP rotation is critical for 2 reasons:

1) Converting angular (turn) speed into linear (bat) speed.

2) Direction of path

1/3
Speeding up the angular speed of the hitter through artificial momentum, forces the front leg and muscles of the trunk to work harder to stabilize and abruptly stop.

2/3
The cues for the drill are designed to turn fast, swing hard, and most importantly - try to shut your belly button down before it gets to the pitcher.

This drill can be done in movement prep (without a bat) as well as off of the tee.
