now that sienna mae gomez is a big talking point due to her new merch, lets talk about how her intentions were good, but she has (INDIRECTLY) negatively affected the body positivity movement on tiktok: a thread

tw // this thread will speak of EDs and body image.
if you don't know who sienna mae gomez is, she is a popular tiktoker + social media influencer who focuses on body positivity. she has recently come under fire for the merch depicted on the right, because it comes off as profiting off of eating disorders.
lets start with her content and how people have reacted to it. the video below is a tiktok that sienna posted. this is a good example of her content, she usually posts dance videos with a crop top or low rise pants to show off the fact that she encourages body positivity.
here are a few screenshots of the comments of that video. they are mostly positive and they are defending her. i will say now that i do not encourage hating on anyone's page, but i am posting these to show a contrast later on.
here is a DIFFERENT body positivity influencer. she goes under the username xobrooklynne. notice how similar her content is to sienna? yeah, keep that in mind.
now, here are the comments on brooklynne's videos.

note: while searching for brooklynne's account, i took a screenshot of the search results. look closely, the bold font shows that all i had to type was "xobrooklyne" for those results to pop up.
i would also like to say, that negative comments were on her page BEFORE that text came out. secondly, i myself got death threats for saying that a zayn album deserved more recognition. you care about the text because it was brooklynne who sent it.
although i only used sienna and brooklynne as an example for this thread, negative comments can be found ob every body positivity tiktoker's page that ISN'T sienna. the one difference between them all is that sienna is on the skinnier side of the spectrum.
i am in no way trying to invalidate how sienna or people who share her body type feel about themself. everyone deserves to see someone who they can relate to in the media, and sienna can't control that this is how society is. but we need to address this issue.
in conclusion, in the end we shouldn't blame sienna, because she has no control over how society is. but it is saddening to see how toxic beauty standards have made its way into a community that is working to fight against them.

end of thread.
