1/6 Hey @JoeManchinWV and @SenatorSinema: Please tell us all again why you think we should keep the filibuster? You actually think there are 10 Senate GOP willing to boost your reelection chances by working with you when they couldnât even be found to convict Trump?
2/6 Your fealty to an arcane, anti-majoritarian procedural rule designed for and uniquely benefitting white supremacy is a betrayal of every American, particularly Black women, who worked to give Democrats control of both Congress and the White House.
3/6 Your willful, childish refusal to acknowledge that there will never be the necessary number of GOP senators willing to advance any policy that actually addresses the needs of your constituents is a stab in those constituentsâ backs.
4/6 Your misguided and dangerous belief that someone like McConnell wouldnât kill the filibuster faster than he can ignore his wifeâs conflicts of interest if he thought he had to risks the viability of our democracy itself: necessary reforms are DOA while the filibuster lives.
5/6 If you donât immediately get onboard with reforming the filibuster, you donât have to worry about Dem voters staying home in 2022 or 2024. They could show up in droves but the GOPâs attacks on democracy will render Dem turnout a nullify.
6/6 Failure to do so is handing a loaded high-powered rifle with sniper sights to the GOP while drawing cross hairs on the center mass of American democracy.
