Well it’s same old story ,Tottenham are a flaky mediocre team. Always have been really apart from the early sixties. Occasionally they border on being a very good team ,occasionally border on being a very poor team.Mourinho being there or not makes not a jot of difference overall
In fact maybe our one claim to fame is , (arguably) being the best of the mediocre clubs -Everton, West Ham, West Brom , Aston Villa, Southampton et al . How do you stop being a mediocre club? Well you need lots of money and a bit of smarts . Or lots of smarts and a bit of money
Leicester didn’t have a huge amount of money, but were very smart, especially Re recruitment, of managers as well as players . IMO I don’t think Spurs’ current owners will ever Chuck big big money at new players-the ones the managers really want , rather than ‘bargains’.
I do think they are smart in regard to building a big successful business, (on the back of a massive loyal fan base), but not smart Re building a successful trophy winning football team.
It’s all well and good building a big new stadium , but if you don’t recruit AT ALL , for 2 windows ..... You are not asking for trouble , you are begging for it . They lucked out with Poch the way the club lucked out with Burkinshaw in the 70’s.
But then they didn’t back poch when the squad needed major refreshing (euphemism). TBF I don’t think Spurs have ever had ideal owners, throughout my life time .There’s been so many crazy decisions along the way by various owners
Getting in Terry Neil , when Bill Nick went -that was fucking incredible that ! We got RELEGATED! Tottenham! Went down! Burkinshaw comes in , does great, wins trophies playing good football , club changes owners , Burkinshaw gets sacked!
The club became a PLC, the first to do so I think. Eventually, The club ended up in financial trouble, and in came Alan Sugar, along with El Tel who put together 2 very good teams , el tel left -Team seriously flirted with relegation once again
I saw us play at main road when we lost 5-2 we literally played with no defence ! We stayed up. Years more mediocrity followed . Enic bought the club around 2001 I think . Since then we have won one league cup! & don’t forget we were bottom of the league when Harry R came
In 2008.
All these Tottenham fans talking about CL football etc .. well forget that Elite group of clubs . In reality we are alongside the clubs I mentioned earlier. No disrespect to those clubs btw . Generally their fans will have a lot more humility than Tottenham’s ....

Only one of those clubs that I mentioned -Everton - hasn’t had long spells out of the top league . Looks like Tottenham are going into one of their ‘Rocky patches ‘. So reminiscent of the past . Groundhog Day.
I saw a sky doc on teddy sherringham this week , he said he left Spurs in the 90’s because he was “sick of being a nearly player at a nearly club “ I would have thought exactly the same sentiments are going through the mind of Harry Kane right now ...and Sonny.
Anyway Forget Ajax...that’s all gone ...Sunderland away anyone ? COYS
