Starting early in 2020, British Columbia spread pandemic misinformation. The province told us that there was no such thing as asymptomatic spread. Scientists and other health experts had already made it clear this wasn't true.

We need to hold our province accountable.
Since early mistakes in 2020 we have seen some success but also other pandemic policy failures in BC.

Cancelling the eviction ban is one of the most harmful and least discussed. Media never mentions it. #bcpoli
Just as COVID-19 cases and deaths were increasing and heading toward all-time highs, the province of British Columbia cancelled the pandemic rental assistance program and cancelled the eviction ban, allowing people to be evicted during the worst part of the pandemic to date.
While I have no doubt that the @bcndp cares about lives and wants to do the right thing, we must carefully consider the evidence when it comes to judging the provincial government on their pandemic response.

It has sometimes been very bad. And overall it has been a failure.
Why do I think the BC provincial response to the pandemic has been a failure?

Because they could have chosen a COVID-19 elimination strategy like New Zealand, and other countries, and prevented infections, prevented Long COVID cases, prevented deaths, and addressed inequality.
The @liberal_party has refused to lead and protect us from COVID-19 with a national #ZeroCOVID strategy.

The @NDP and @CanadianGreens should lead.

We call on @theJagmeetSingh and @AnnamiePaul to support a national COVID-19 elimination strategy now. https://twitter.com/OmanReagan/status/1360190107836272644

"The epidemiological model suggests that, without a fundamental change in strategy, Canada will likely experience a 3rd wave this spring with a potential peak of over 9000 cases per day." — @csc_canada_

"The Canadian Shield is a persistent suppression strategy (i.e., persistently reducing cases each week until near-zero levels are reached) with a goal of zero community transmission."

#CanadianShield #ZeroCOVID
"It is a near-zero COVID strategy, in that it recognizes that maintaining zero COVID cases is not feasible until a vaccine is widely available."

#CanadianShield #ZeroCOVID
#CanadianShield "applies the hard-won learning that zero is the best target, and the most stable position from which to fight new COVID infections.

In this way, it is similar to the successful strategies presently being employed in Atlantic and Northern Canada."
