One of the My Bristol Favourites choices of chef Jake Platt in @Bristol247 tomorrow is the Nova Scotia pub in Hotwells. It's got me really, really missing pubs. So here are a few photos of that most brilliant of watering holes. (THREAD 1/5)
A frankly ridiculous part of my job in normal times is writing about pubs, so I have plenty of photos of them. In alphabetical order, a few of the places that I visited when we still could frequent boozers: the Bag of Nails, the Barley Mow, the Clyde and the Grain Barge (2/5)
The Highbury Vaults, King's Head, Langton and Robin Hood (3/5)
The Royal Navy Volunteer, Small Bar, Spotted Cow and Stag & Hounds (4/5)
And the Star & Garter, Star, Swan With Two Necks and Three Lions. When it's safe to do so again, I'll get the first round in. (5/5)
An afterword: one thing I have learned after years of writing about dozens of different pubs is that every one is at least somebody's favourite place in the world. I would never dream of being disparaging about any pub because who am I to judge? Every pub is a special place.
