The most American thing I can think of is that 57 people voted to convict and 43 voted to acquit, and the 43 people won
We can teach kids that the Declaration of Independence states all men are created equal, that our constitution guarantees equal treatment, but the reality is that "some people count more than others" was built into this country and until we exorcise it this will keep happening.
Also: I understand why people are RT'ing with "this is un-American" but let's be real. For *most* of this country's history, only white men could vote, hold property, hold office. Gerrymandering, runoffs, and 2/3rds rules still exist to uphold that. It's *very* American.
We’ve reached the number of RTs where smug middle aged white men decide the problem is I don’t understand the Constitution, instead of the Constitution being written to serve the interests of white male landowners in the late 1700s, so 👍 time to mute! Take it to substack, Dave!
WELP this has certainly snowballed and we still have to eat in this panoramic, so ✨ Toss a coin to your author ✨
