To Record Only Water for Ten Days by John Frusciante is 20 years old today
this is probably my favorite album of all time. I think it stands out from his other work musically and lyrically.

Its his first solo album after he became sober and I think much of the lyrics, while sometimes hard to make sense of, have a lot to do with that period of his life where he was very messed up + close to death. His live shows from this era were GREAT:
TROWFTD has a special place in my heart anyways because the very first Frusciante song I heard was Away & Anywhere, and I instantly loved it- which does not happen often for me. I typically need multiple listenings before I can say I love a song.

Something thatās unique about this album is that every track has a music video, despite there only being one officially released single (Going Inside). But Moments Have You is my favorite video and in my top 2 of favorite songs from this album.

My absolute favorite would be With No One. I had tweeted a clip of this recently but hereās the first part where heās talking about some of the lyrics and a ~vision~ he had

The instrumental track, Murderers, was played over the speakers in Egypt when the Chili Peppers were about to take the stage in front of the pyramids, which was a shocker for everyone at the time bc Frusciante had not yet rejoined the band. In hindsight, I think it was a hint

In 2017, TwelveSuns record label in Australia released it on vinyl for the 1st time, limited to 1500 copies worldwide. I was so lucky, i managed to snag one and it is the most beautiful thing in the world + my prized possession. Donāt hesitate to buy if you find one in a store.
I was so happy when I found this To Record Only Water for Ten Days promotional cd (titled John Frusciante EP) for $10 (Discogs is your friend!). Not super rare or anything, but a cool addition for my little collection. It has 3 tracks: Going Inside, Someoneās, Moments Have You
Frusciante had in years past expressed how unhappy he was with the final production on this album. He recorded it digitally and the process was not an easy one. So it definitely has a different sound from his other albums, which he does analog. But heās wrong okay?! itās amazing!
I could *literally* talk for hours about how much I love this album. Much like everyone, 2020 was a horrible year for me and it helped me so so much. It is my therapy, my comfort album, my happy album. I would be lost without it
xx
