The long delay is even more unforgivable than them going with $1,400 rather than $2,000. Terrible politics as well as a bad policy move if your goal is to help people. There was nothing stopping Democrats - nothing - from passing a standalone $2,000 checks bill immediately when they took unified control of Congress like they said they would.

Remember, Democrats could have fought for & likely passed standalone checks of more than $2,000 at any point after the pandemic hit in 2020. They also could have joined Bernie in refusing to allow a defense bill to advance without a vote on the checks in December. They didn't.

It's impossible to look at Democratic leadership's actions over the past year & conclude that stimulus checks are something they really care about getting out to people.
