this might be a touch controversial, but we don't actually /know/ BTS.
to an extent, we can never know anyone because we are always perceiving people from the limited information they can present through self-disclosure and appearance.

in the video embedded, namjoon talks about the dangers of assuming you know someone given limited context.
obviously, if you know someone personally and have a well-established relationship you will get to know them better. none of us have this with BTS.

don’t get it twisted, i don’t think that BTS are putting on a charade of some sort, but i think people can be blind to the fact that the way BTS present themselves publicly will always be different than in a personal setting.
the members have to be very cautious about the way they present themselves in a public light because of the sheer amount of sway their words and actions have.
the individual public persona that they all have is always going to be curated for a public light. everyone has a public persona. the way you talk and the information you share with strangers vs your best friend is going to be different because the expectations are different.
we can never really /know/ BTS, and that’s okay. it’s unfair to ask them for more than they are willing to share or give to us, and they already give us a lot. asking to know them in a capacity beyond what they are willingly going to show is unfair.
it’s only fair for that the amount they give to us that we respect the boundaries they have and not press further.
skewing BTS’s words and actions by taking away the context or speculating is also unfair, especially when it is misrepresented as actual information.

if you take what BTS do and say at face value and trust them, that’s the key to an enjoyable ARMY experience with minimal drama.
a few addendums:
having a persona doesn’t make you fake or insincere. the persona is not like adopting a character, it is simply presenting a version of yourself. BTS are not insincere for having various personas.
@worldwidebonsai said it very well here:

in conclusion (for now), stream “persona” and also take a good look at the lyrics!
