I've thought about this for quite a while, and it's not easy to leave a community you've gotten so immersed in over several years, but I'm gonna try to get out of this hellhole that is the GD community. I might tweet things related to the game itself sometimes, but yeah, I'm out.
If I unfollow you, please try not to take it personally. I'm not gonna unfollow everyone that's in the community, of course, as I've met plenty of cool people here and by no means want to lose those connections, but if I unfollow you it doesn't mean I dislike you or anything.
I should have done this a long time ago, but getting into Celeste and now Hollow Knight has taught me that there are plenty of other places on the internet that are far more willing to not only show basic respect to others, but also be incredibly kind.
I always thought "oh, the GD community isn't THAT bad..." but I never had anything to compare it to. The GD community is the only one I've really been a part of, and dipping my toes into new gaming communities has honestly been shocking. I wish I had realized this sooner.
I don't know why a game like Geometry Dash, based around the creative process of making levels, has amassed a community that is a breeding ground of toxicity and repulsive behavior. A game like GD is the last thing I'd expect to have such an awful community. But it is how it is.
Despite all the bad things I'm saying now about the community, there have definitely been good things in the past, and I'm grateful for that. But I've come to understand that these good things don't have to be rare, if I choose to be in friendlier places online.
I never understood the idea of "quitting GD" or any game, because you usually don't permanently stop. What I mean by this is you might still see me around occasionally, I just want to distance myself from here for the most part. But I'd like to mainly be other places.
Cya lol
