People are upset with the Dems for not calling witnesses. Allow me to explain what happened.

That call, and his statement that "I guess they care more about my election than you do," to McCarthy is huge in establishing his mindset. And it's something the defense team denied happened.

So that's No. 1. Getting that concession negates the need to have the testimony given. True, it's not the same as having her say those things in a trial setting. But that's not changing any minds.

That admission is huge. It goes to the heart of the entire prosecution's case and against the entire defense's case. It establishes that Trump didn't stop it from happening because he wanted it to happen.

Even if conviction fails, they can 14th Amendment Trump. By Trump acknowledging this call happened, they have every bit of ground they need to establish that Trump was complicit in the insurrection.
And to get a 14th amendment vote, they only need a majority.

So they get three things out of this admission by Trump's defense.
