IMPEACHMENT THREAD: The last non-Trump-related impeachment process lasted 127 days. Congress examined thousands of documents, hundreds of depositions, several witnesses during the impeachment and trial of President Clinton.
/ In this trial Democrats decided not to conduct investigations, depositions, interviews, or hearings but rely completely on media reports and TikTok video. This allowed Democrats to create a "snap" impeachment that would take less than a week.
/ To facilitate the "snap" impeachment, Democrats told Trump's lawyers no witnesses would be allowed. After Trump's lawyers proved that they had manufactured evidence, recreated tweets, and mislead Senators with manipulated videos they decided they needed witnesses.
/ This morning the Senate voted to allow witnesses and President Trump's first witness will be @SpeakerPelosi. They want to know what she knew and when she knew it.
/ If Democrats are pivoting from their "snap" impeachment to a more traditional impeachment that required depositions, hearings, and witnesses the trial could easily last into April - delaying President Biden's entire agenda. We should learn more by 12:30PM ET.
/ The Democrats are signaling they don't want to call witnesses now, but the cat is out of the bag. If the senate begins to subpoena witnesses and any witness objects this whole mess could end up in #SCOTUS.

/ Quorum Call in the Senate as Turley points out that Raskin sandbagged the Senate Democrats. He's right. https://twitter.com/JonathanTurley/status/1360644920978141187
/ Sadly the House Managers have decided they don't need any witnesses after all.
/ House Managers in their closing statements violated Senate rules and are admonished by @SenatorLeahy. They attempted to change the grounds for impeachment to failure to stop the attacks from incitement of the attacks.
