Wondering what the hell this Dispo thing is that everyone is talking about? Here’s an overview
What is @DispoHQ?
It’s a new social media app created by @DavidDobrik. It originally was released in 2020 as a camera app that mimicked a retro disposable camera.

It’s a new social media app created by @DavidDobrik. It originally was released in 2020 as a camera app that mimicked a retro disposable camera.

The old Dispo app is still available in the app store, but that’s not the one everyone is talking about all of a sudden. There’s a new version that adds a social media component, and it’s currently in private beta for iOS.

You take photos through a tiny viewfinder window that looks like an old-school disposable camera. The photos are shot on digital “film rolls” that develop the next day at 9am.
No editing, no manual controls. You have to wait to see your pics.

You have a profile & you can follow people like normal, but the real magic happens with SHARED film rolls. You invite people to film rolls and your friends can shoot disposables to the same roll.
Each roll has a leaderboard and superlatives.

When your photos develop the next day, you’ll discover that they don’t just look like normal photos. They have a slight color grade and vibe about them that looks just like old disposable cameras.

You’ll need a friend or colleague who already has access. Lots of invites started rolling out last night, so they’re spreading thru networks right now. Some folks are giving out invites on Twitter. Don’t fall prey to scams though.

The app makers are asking people kindly not to share screenshots on social media during the beta, so I won’t share here. I do have a few invites left though for some folks.
Here’s a @DispoHQ tip that I saw last night but can’t find again. You can make your camera app automatically open Dispo instead by making an automation in the Apple Shortcuts app:
. @DispoHQ Tip 2: Put your instagram or twitter handle in your bio using the formatting below and when someone taps on your handle it’ll link to your profile. https://twitter.com/jeffistyping/status/1360410210167357440
This is one of my favorite features of @DispoHQ

Update: there are several scam accounts trying to sell Dispo invites who are using my twitter thread to promote their grifting. Do not engage with them, and I have nothing to do with them.
Happy to report that changing your phone’s Date & Time does NOT allow you to jump ahead and have your @DispoHQ photos instantly developed.
Was worried this might be a thing that would kill the magic.
