by Germany but in Far East, Japan thrashed them twice. Once in Pearl Harbour & then in Philippines. When USA suffered losses in Philippines, he gave a famous speech “I will return” & that he did.

surrender & it was Gen. MacArthur who received the surrender of Japan on iconic US warship Missouri.
Then when others wanted to leave, he stayed in the east & guided Japanese recovery from the war. Made governments & oversaw the transition of power to the people of Japan.

This earned him the highest honour of Japan- The order of Rising Sun.
Philippines Army also gave him the rank of Field Marshal and he is the only US General to have a rank of Field Marshal, that too by a foreign country.

Famous battle of Inchon where he successfully carried out 5th largest amphibious assault of World military history. 260 ships, 75000 men landed at impossible shore of Inchon.
