Some of the occasions when Lionel Messi single-handedly carried his team in big tournaments and matches. [THREAD]
• The 2018/2019 season.

The biggest carry-job in football history. Single handedly carried Barcelona to a UCL semifinal and won the league with a shit team. 51 goals and 18 assists (69 G/A) in 49 games. The only good Barcelona player at Anfield, creating chance after chance.
• World Cup 2018 qualifiers.

The heroics of Lionel Messi is this campaign need no introduction. Single-handedly taking Argentina to world cup and saving them from utter humiliation. Argentina without Messi 1/7 wins; Argentina with Messi 5/6 wins.
• Champions League 2011 semifinal (1st leg).

A 23 year old Lionel Messi destroying a star-studded Real Madrid side in a Champions League semifinal and scoring one of the best champions league goals of all time has to be the one of the best CL performances ever.
• Champions League 2015 semifinal (1st leg).

2 wonder goals and a defence splitting assist against the best defence and goalkeeper of the world. Single-handedly winning the first leg, Messi was clutch as ever in that game against Bayern.
• Champions League 2019 semifinal (1st leg).

Destroyed Liverpool and scored one of the best freekick goals in the history of football. It's a shame how Dembele, Alba, Suarez and co. ruined that CL campaign. Messi was also Barcelona's only good player in the 2nd leg.
• Champions league 2010 R16.

Scored a poker against Wenger's Arsenal and single-handedly knocked them out of the Champions league. Messi shocked the whole world and was already being compared to players like Pele and Maradona in his early 20s.
• Champions League 2012 R16.

Five goals in a Champions league game sums it all up. "Nobody has ever played Champions League football quite like Lionel Messi before", Rob Palmer.
• Champions League 2018 R16

Destroyed Chelsea in both legs scoring three goals and absolutely humiliated Thibaut Courtious with 2 similar nutmeg goals in the 2nd leg. "He is the God of the game", Martin Tyler.
• El Clasico 2007.

A 17 year old Lionel Messi single-handedly drawing the game 3-3 by scoring his maiden hattrick and stealing the spotlight in a game where the biggest icons and legends of world football filled the pitch.
• El Clasico 2014.

Scored a record second Clascio hattrick and silenced the Santiago Bernabeu. Won the fiercly contested game 4-3 for Barcelona dishing out a masterclass.
• El Clasico 2017.

Absolutely humiliated Real Madrid in their own stadium. Gave a 10/10 masterclass scoring 2 goals including a late last minner winner and doing probably the most iconic celebration in football history. This victory kept Barcelona alive in La Liga 2017/18 race.
These are just "some" of the occasions when Messi stepped up to the plate and single-handedly carried his team on big stages.
