The term Bhadrolok is not a bad term. Being cultured & sophisticated has always been an important aspect of Bengali life. But it is an undeniable fact that this particular term has today transformed into a dog whistle to mock a section of urban elite in Kolkata.
This section of urban elites generally live in posh localities of Kolkata, their children go to the most famous schools, they reject the Indian story and blindly follow Western talking points, and most importantly have tremendous disdain for the people from districts.
These people generally support CPI(M), now TMC (because of financial kickbacks from Kolkata TMC bigshots) & occupy the top posts of majority of the media houses, academic institutions, community organisations, etc. They repeatedly peddle leftist & anti Hindu narrative.
They now are busy being saviors of Bengalis. They repeatedly peddle the Bengali vs Non Bengali narrative & the United Bengal narrative while they & their children intermingle regularly with Non Bengalis.
They want to create victimhood mentality among the average Bengali. Bengalis are not weak. We were a race of administrators & warriors. The fact that our folks have fallen from being administrators to being labourers in various states of India should make us introspect.
This fall has happened because of the above mentioned class. This class has destroyed the based, ambitious Bengali spirit through decades aided by government (CPIM & TMC) patronage. This is one of the reason why the term "Bhadrolok" is now facing such ire from average Bengalis.
The main thing is that folks from Hooghly, Midnapore, Burdwan, North Bengal wants the political power shifting from these type of people to the average, hardcore religious, highly ambitious & ruthless Bengalis. Hence the anger.
In conclusion, "Bhadrolok is a good term but not all Bhadroloks are good".
