I have been disappointed by the behaviour of fellow individuals in the academy of whom continue to use their position to attack well meaning individuals who differ in politics and/or method
As a fellow academic, I cannot stand for this any longer. And here's why. (Thread).

1) Our role should be to encourage debate and act with intrigue and trust, to support practitioners and bring people on board. Not to attack. Not to shut down. We are not the thought police.
2) We have expert knowledge. But so do so many people who do and do not hold academic roles. Schools are stepping up their role in leading the sector. Let's support. Let's encourage. Let's question. Let's promote good and healthy dialogue.
3) No, not everything is political! Let's stop turning it into a political game and just help the heck out! What can we do? How can we help? Might not be our ship but how do we help steer the direction.
4) Our job is to build trust, not demand it. We need to build trust with practitioners of all approaches and methods so we can be critical friends.
5) Our influence and power will move with the hands of time, with fashion and with the moves and swathes of policy. But I don't believe that makes our ideas more or less redundant. The point we should always ask ourselves : we are PUBLIC servants, how can I help?
Yes I'm a young academic. I'm sure I'll be called wet behind the ears, espc. For not believing that every single decision says something about our political persuasions.
No.
I just choose to put my desire to help and make a difference beyond my own opinion.
