THREAD: You slashed 1024 crores from the Minority Affairs budget. The ministry's Budget Estimate of Rs 5,029 crores was slashed to Revised Estimate of Rs 4,005 crores. The cut comes to 20.36 percent in the current year. [1/n] https://twitter.com/ANI/status/1360465268766429187
As per revised estimate, the allocations have been reduced by Rs 75 crores for Maulana Azad National Fellowship for Minority Students, Rs 25 crores for free coaching scheme, Rs 8 crores for interest subsidy on educational loans for overseas studies [2/n]
2 cr have been slashed for support for students clearing Prelims of UPSC/SPSCs. The cut for the educational schemes comes to Rs 110 cr. For skill development & livelihood schemes, allocations have been cut by 175 cr, including Rs 60 crores for skill development initiatives [3/n]
What else is defunded? 60 cr for Nai Manzil initiative, 4 cr for leadership development of minority women, 50 cr towards equity contribution to National Minorities Development & Finance Corporation & Rs 1 crore to state channelising agencies. [4/n]
I've been demanding that minority scholarships should be demand driven. Award scholarships to every eligible applicant rather than depriving them of an education due to poverty. But BJP has repeatedly cut funds for 3 major scholarships: Merit Cum Means, Pre & Post-Matric [5/n]
For these 3 schemes Budget Estimate for 2020-21 was 2265 cr. As of 31 Dec only 436 crores have been spent. From 1330 cr for Pre-Matric only 204 cr have been spent. For 535 crore for Post-Matric only 127 have been spent & as against 400 cr for MCM only 105 have been spent [6/n]
The revised allocation of Rs 4,005 crores constitutes a measly 0.12 percent of the revised budget estimate of union government’s total expenditure. This is 1/8th of 1% of total govt expenditure. [n/n]
