SE25 to Turf Moor

Match day. We’ve had some fantastic games versus Burnley & some critical ones as well at both ends of the table.

No doubt, without fans, today will be a tough watch & a tight affair (my prediction 1-0, Luka)

Here’s my memories when seeing Burnley.
Show us your stats.....

Matches: 43

Grounds: 5, Turf Moor, Selhurst, Belle Vue, Bootham Crescent, Bramall Lane

Goals For: 42 Against: 55

Burnley won 11, drawn 15, lost 17

Biggest wins & losses 4-0 vs York, 0-5 vs Palace

I’ve seen Palace win....13

Most goals in a game: 7
First game:

My first memory of a Palace v Burnley was big, 52k+ big.

May ‘79. Win, promoted as champions. Lose, stay down & Brighton are champions. It took to the 76th for us to take the lead. Swindlehurst made it 2 on 88 & soon followed, my first pitch invasion. What a night.
Favourite game

Aug ‘03, the sun was out & optimism was high as we started the season at Turf Moor. This game had the lot
- Dougie 0-1 (pen)
- Routledge sent off.
- Pen given, changed to free kick which they score 1-1
- 2-1
- 2-2 Dougie
- 2-3 Dougie hat-trick
- Derry sent off.
Burnley as an away day?

It’s grim up North! I love Burnley away, proper old school ground. If driving, there are some lovely villages just outside the town with picturesque pubs. On the train & it’s to the cricket ground for a pie & pint with mates of both clubs.
Worst game? Nov ‘16

2-0 down within 15 mins, Steeeeeve making 1 of his fleeting appearances was poor. Wickham 2-1 before a late Benteke penalty got us a point. Not Pardew, we decided to carry on the Hail Mary attacking only to concede a 94th min winner to Ashley Barnes. Fuming!
Favourite goal?

March ‘19, Sauce FC with pace in both full back positions, Max in midfield, Schlupp & Wilf wide, Batman up front. Already 2-0 up when Wilf gives the Burnley defence twisted blood before finishing low past Heaton. There are limbs in the wooden seats.
Random game: York v Burnley

Aug ‘13, I’m staying up north, check the fixtures & see York are at home in the League Cup. Having not been to Bootham Crescent I decide to go. Working with the EFL I ask them for help with a ticket. I was the only 1 in the boardroom in shorts! 0-4
Magical memories

We’ve stayed up, gone up & made the playoffs all against Burnley but 1 of my favourite memories is from a 0-0 draw.

Sept ‘14, Warnock’s first home game back in charge & Burnley have got on top. Penalty. Step-up Julian Speroni with a wonder save. This man. ❤️💙
Last game: Nov ‘19

The last time we played each other with fans in the ground. Dann came in for the injured Cahill & was exceptional. Wilf gave us the lead right on half time, Schlupp settles it with 10 to go in front of a delirious away end. In between, Sakho gives us kittens!
He played for both clubs:

There have been some of the great Palace goal scorers who have played for both clubs. Gareth Taylor, Dele Adebola, Ade Akinbiyi......oh & Ian Wright. Ignore those, I’m going for the ‘07 POTY, Leon Cort. A great defender who scored more than the 1st 3!
Thx for reading.

I’ve not mentioned Edwards in ‘83, the 7 goal thriller in the promotion season versus Palace next manager (ha ha) or Punch & Gayle in ‘15.
