Marcus Mariota was destined to fail in Tennessee. Exhibit A was his WRs. The Titans never surrounded Mariota with an elite WR1 and he was forced to make due with scrubs. Titans were among the league leaders in drop% every season with Mariota.
The Titans' offensive line was just as bad as Mariota's WRs were(and worse). They were a bottom 10 offensive line 4 out of his 5 seasons with the Titans. Tennessee could not protect Marcus and it lead to him losing his confidence and also lead to numerous injuries.
Injuries:
2015: MCL sprain(4 games)
2016: Broken fibula(out for season)
2018: Broken ribs, nerve issue in arm(could've caused permanent damage), sprained AC joint, cracked vertebra, strained oblique, significant tear of plantar fascia(played through all, missed season finale)
Mariota's coaching was also extremely unstable. He had 3 head coaches and 5 different OCs in 5 seasons. None of these OCs built a scheme that fit his strengths as a spread QB. Instead they put him in "exotic smashmouth" type offences that didn't build off any of his strengths.
Mariota has to be one of the unluckiest QBs in the league. In 2017 he had 14 turnover-worthy passes but ended up with 15 INTs. Mariota is still extremely talented and has the upside to bounce back. In the right offence I am confident he will succeed and am hoping he does.
