Back from a little bikepacking adventure from Auckland's North Shore to Mahurangi Regional Park
Stunning views
Leaving on a Friday afternoon is not ideal. The roads are busy with people trying to get home. East coast road being very busy
After getting out of Silverdale the back country roads were more peaceful. Took gravel roads to get into Puhoi.
Puhoi General Store is worth a stop. What a lovely quiet village. Wonder what is happening once the motorway has been finished.
Now I had to ride 3.5 km of SH1. Actually the timing could not have been better: traffic is very slow on a late Friday afternoon.
Sullivans' Bay is a beautiful campground. After swim in the ocean a fellow camper told me he saw a great white earlier on!
Wouldnt it be great if there would be always a guaranteed spot for cyclists and hikers?
Next morning I had to ride SH1 again to get back home. This time i took the Waiwera exit. I felt quit safe, but man that hill up to Waiwera is a b!tch.
Hard to believe all the traffic up and down from the North had to squeeze through that little road. Felt really vulnerable riding out of Waiwera.
Most dangerous part still to come: cycling through sleepy Orewa without being taken out by a senior citizen.
East Coast Road again which is even busy on a Saturday morning. Also go to hell #keepit100
