A thread about vaccine administration in B.C. vs the rest of Canada:
1. Because BC chose to expend most of its Dec./Jan. supply on 1st doses, it has the lowest percentage (.34%) of ppl fully vaccinated. The nat'l rate is more than double.
1. Because BC chose to expend most of its Dec./Jan. supply on 1st doses, it has the lowest percentage (.34%) of ppl fully vaccinated. The nat'l rate is more than double.
2. New COVID cases/100,000 in last 7 days have risen 3% in BC. The only others to see increases in new cases are NFLD and NWT.
3. Hospitalizations have dropped in BC by 10.7% in the past week & Man. is the only other province to see such a small decrease. The nat'l decrease in hospitalizations is 17.3%
4. People are still dying in LTC even though the vast majority of residents & staff have had 1st shots. It was good to hear Dr. Henry and health minister @adriandix say today that when vaccine supply is replenished next week, the focus will be on 2nd doses.
5. The test positivity rate has been going up for about 2 weeks. Meanwhile, the number of ppl getting tested has been falling substantially.
6. And this is why delays between 1st and 2nd doses should be avoided, especially in the elderly: https://www.bmj.com/content/372/bmj.n217
