NAFSA continues to engage with @DHSgov and members of Congress on the severe #f1optlockboxdelay impacting #intlstudents and to push @USCIS to announce solutions ASAP. Retweet the following recommendations to show your support! #intled
Problem 1: the #f1optlockboxdelay is causing checks to expire while the #OPT work authorization applications await receipt notice processing. Solution: @USCIS should RFE applications/petitions if checks have expired by the time USCIS receipts them.
Problem 2: the #f1optlockboxdelay is causing stress among students in F status who filed I-765s in Oct., Nov., and Dec. 2020, haven’t received receipt notices & are near the end of their 60-day end-of-study grace period. Solution: @USCIS should state that they won’t be penalized.
Problem 3: the #f1optlockboxdelay is causing stress among students who are losing STEM #OPT experiential learning opptys while awaiting long-delayed receipt notices. Employers are unclear on how to comply with the law. Solution: @USCIS should clarify reporting requirements.
Problem 4: the #f1optlockboxdelay is causing students to fear filings have been lost & to consider re-filing. Solution: @USCIS issues regular updates on receipt processing times, processing improvements & its policies to protect students’ immigration status & full access to #OPT.
