DeWine talking about the struggles K-12 children have faced in school during the pandemic, and the assessments that have confirmed disrupted learning
DeWine says the state allowed for the vaccination of teachers as long as they agreed to return to in-person instruction by March 1..."school districts promised to do this."
DeWine: "We have seen some really great progress...schools have by in large kept this commitment and done even better."

December - 45% of student population in remote learning
Today - Less than 15% in remote learning
DeWine says the state has learned that a handful of school districts will "break that commitment"
DeWine says Walnut Hills HS in Cincinnati will remain remote for the entire year "That simply is not acceptable"

Akron Public Schools says it won't be back till March 15, DeWine says this also "is not acceptable."
DeWine says he just talked to Eric Gordon, Superintendent with Cleveland Metropolitan Schools.

DeWine said they had a frank conversation and asked if they should stop vaccinating the teachers if Cleveland doesn't return
DeWine says Gordon says "he will do everything in his power to get his kids back to school by March 1."
Gov. DeWine says holding this briefing on a Friday night shows the seriousness of the situation and that this serves as a warning to districts considering not coming back by March 1
DeWine says school districts made a commitment to students, parents, the community that they would return March 1.

The consequence would be the state would pull back the vaccine for teachers, school employees
DeWine: "Let's figure this out, schools can do it."
When Gov. DeWine talks about returning to the classroom on March 1, this includes a hybrid model. School are not required to be fully in-person by March 1
