Ok so I watched the Chris Harrison interview and y’all are nuts
What happened in that interview was a very healthy conversation (aside from the few times Chris did what men do and spoke over Rachel😒), there was no “defending racism”, there were tough questions asked and good points made but y’all don’t want to hear any of that
I’d be very curious to know if that sorority exec board who decided on the party was entirely white, but we also have to consider that Southern culture is it’s own world and for girls who grew up in the south watching Nicholas sparks movies and visiting plantations on field trips
An “old south” formal was an excuse for them to wear pretty dresses at a pretty house. Is that SO surface level and ignorant? Absolutely? Is it racist? Absolutely not. Does that mean that she or any of her sorority sisters are excluded from the racist conversation? Of course not,
I grew up in the north and went to high school and college in the deeeeep south and y’all I cannot even put into words how different every aspect of life is between the two. It’s alarming in some ways, absolutely. But you can’t fault people for not seeing something the way you do
I was taking US history in school the year I left the north, I did not get a US history class when I moved to SC. When I transferred I was put into a SC history class where we were taught that the civil war was fought over states rights and it was all about northern rage
As a northern kid I was pretty confused and equally pissed by everything my teacher had to say and my classmates all thought I was insane because that was all they’d ever been taught and vice versa.
If we want to be outraged by anything it should be the bullying and the making fun of girls for liking black boys in school. That’s definitely a conversation that needs to be had, and we need to hear what she has to say about the party, but y’all. I cannot stress this enough.
People. Can. Change. People can grow. People can learn from their mistakes.
Rachel and Rachel only needs to speak up right now, not Chris Harrison, not the bachelor franchise. Rachel. The silence is alarming for sure, but she needs to be given the chance to explain and discuss. Rachel Lindsey even said so herself. Everyone deserves that chance.
Like seriously let’s focus on real issues instead of all of the performative reality tv bs!!!!! Let’s focus on reforming healthcare, defunding the police and getting real experts to take care of mental health crises, let’s focus on bodily autonomy and criminal justice reform
Let’s focus on EDUCATION so that kids don’t grow up thinking that plantations are just pretty places to go on field trips. Let’s focus on communication and organization and get REAL SHIT DONE
So go ahead and call me a racist for thinking we’ve got more important shit to deal with than some mean girl on tv who went to a dumb ass sorority formal at UGA, but PLEASE, take your performative activism and do something about it.
