I still hold that my greatest concern is the extremely cold temperatures. While 4-6" of snow is a good bit for North Texas, we have had larger events. But this won't be your typical North Texas winter storm where it snows and then everything is normal the next day. 1/4
This will be a long-duration event. Coldest temperatures are expected on Tuesday morning, but we may not get above freezing until Thursday or Friday. Notice that in my "Key Messages" this emphasis. In fact, I didn't even use the word "snow" until the main body of the AFD. 2/4
That was on purpose. (Though I guess I do say "winter storm"). The problem is: North TX isn't accustomed to this. If you get stuck in a ditch along the highway, you may not be rescued for some time. These kinds of temperatures can be deadly to those caught in them. 3/4
And then you have the issue of bursting pipes and electric demand. @ERCOT_ISO is already sounding the alarm for record demand levels. I think when the dust settles (or when the snow settles), we will remember this event for the extreme cold. 4/4
