Last night, while (almost) everyone was sleeping, the Mississippi Senate passed an already shot down bill that would undermine the will of 74% of Mississippians. SB 2765 establishes a medical marijuana program that goes against the points established in Initiative 65. (1) #msleg
The reason they gave for the passage of this anti-65 piece of legislation was that they wanted to give the people some sort of medical marijuana program if the Supreme Court of Mississippi decided to reject Initiative 65. (2) #msleg
If they actually cared about protecting Initiative 65, then they would've just passed Initiative 65 into law. However, the same people who put in an alternative amendment to try to get 65 to not pass just passed a bill that would undermine Initiative 65 (3) #msleg
SB 2765 will only go into effect if the Supreme Court strikes down Initiative 65, but the passage of this billl gives the court a really good reason to strike it down. (4) #msleg
