Antisemitism is a compound word invented in Germany in 1879, by an antisemite, as a gentler euphemism for Judenhass, “Jew-hatred”. Hyphenation suggests the existence of “Semitism”, which does not exist. It also allows prevarication, because Jews are not the only Semitic peoples.
“Semitic” is a language group. Jews, Arabs, Assyrians, Ethiopians, and others are all Semitic peoples. Antisemitism, the word, means hatred of Jews.
If nothing else, please stop hyphenating to avoid “Trending: Semitic” or “Trending: Semitism”, which is just never a great vibe!

ok thank u

Exactly. There are several ethnic groups that speak Semitic languages. Antisemitism means hating Jews. The hyphen is misleading and counterproductive. https://twitter.com/emgeesandiego/status/1360340891144126466
Muting this thread bc whenever I harp on this it attracts literal neo-nazis lmao. Cool website
The worst format imho is when you see anti-Semitism with a capital S like “Semitism” is a proper noun lol. Shadowy cabal vibes. Feels sort of opposite of what’s intended!!
I don’t think anyone does it maliciously, and in fact lots of Jews hyphenate it, but personally I just always make a
