There seems to be some confusion about the Serum Institute announcement. AstraZeneca applied to Health Canada for emergency approval of its vaccine in October. Serum produces the AZ vaccine in India. It applied to Health Canada on 1/23/21 to distribute it in Canada. /2 #cdnpoli
2/ The AZ vaccine was not adequately tested in the +65 age group (where, let's face it, the risk is higher). Clinical trial(s) are underway to correct that data shortfall. Why use public resources to administer a vaccine when its efficacy in the priority group is not known?
But, this does not stop the federal government from securing a distribution agreement *pending* Health Canada approval of the vaccine to be distributed.
