There are a lot of misconceptions in the games industry and I was guilty of having quite a few in the beginning before I had a better understanding of how things worked too. Let's unpack some of them. (Thread)
The same people keep getting picked over and over. Sometimes yeah. Bc they've done the work and put in the time and come highly recommended. There are no paychecks in content creation they need to pay the bills too and have proven reliable.also new people are always coming up.
If you haven't been chosen its not some slight and clique its either bc you haven't caught someone's attention YET or you simply aren't who they are looking for. This is a business people work with people they want to represent them.
Its hard to be plain about this but not everyone is for every opportunity and not everyone is for partnerships with platform. If everyone got it it would no longer be an achievement in your career. This space is amazing but there is competition for jobs just like any other career
Everybody ain't your friend. Alot of folks are here for just business and that is okay too. And some people will actively try to keep you from opportunities bc of their mindsets. Its shitty but take care of your mental health early on in your career and understand its not you.
Just because you get turned down for an opportunity doesn't mean you stop there. Taking no and turning it into a yes should be your focus. Keep working and improving and reapply for things. Never give up. It's a marathon not a sprint.
Also instead of focusing on not being chosen for things focus on the why's and how's. How can you catch their eye and shoot your shot..and why they might even not chosen you. I am fully aware I'm not everyone's cup of tea so I shoot my shots accordingly.
I still am struggling to get PAID opportunities like anyone else and am still growing my channel. I am highly visible but that doesn't always mean PAID. so while you may think ohh she's got it made maybe understand how this industry works and realize I'm in the very start of my
Journey and am busting my ass every single day. Hours of curating of my socials etc daily, emails etc. Pitching to people and getting denied. Not every day is a great day and I'm fairly transparent. Just know to find joy wherever you are and enjoy your journey
I hope I helped you in anyway feel better about your path. It feels lonely and hard but it's rewarding alot more if you don't look at those around you and focus on your intent and your growth
