i think sometimes people forget that by creating flawed societies, you give the characters in your story the possibility to improve the world they’re in and i personally love how’s that’s done in cr
the m9 are not heroes, they’re not “good” people and but they’re also not revolutionaries, they’re just regular folk who have been so hurt by the system and also by the people in their lives trying to do their best with the time that they have
but this collective pain they suffered is so connected to how flawed each institution they came to contact with is, so it eventually clicks for them that their anger shouldn’t go towards themselves but instead to the systems who hurt them
i specially like how the cobalt soul was presented, these librarians who root out corruption and gather information but who are also EXTREMELY flawed in their practices and at the end of the day, just as capable of hurting as any other system in wildemount
and in beau’s case it was zeenoth who did shitty things, but that just means that he’s part of a MUCH bigger problem within the soul, and the fact that they’re holding themselves accountable and recognizing what happened is a good start
beau’s entire journey was about realizing that the abuse she suffered doesn’t define her, that to form meaningful connections she had to learn how to care for other people, so i’m excited to see how she’s gonna view the soul now, after all that’s happened
