catradora + their respective sky imagery: a thread

in episode 1 catra's given the “skywalker sunset.” catra is centered around the moons, while adora is the one who comes into this space, stays close to the outside. this scene establishes rooftop's importance to both of them, and it’s where catra expresses her desire to leave
in ep 3 we find out that there are no stars on etheria. when the stars are projected, adora knows what they are, she calls them by name. adora doesn’t know her origins or why the stars are gone, but she it's here she connects them to her new journey, and to her identity as she-ra
in s2, when shadow weaver is in the middle of manipulating catra, we see that the moons are aligning. but catra doesn't know what this means (they align for sw, not her.) here the sky is the darkest we've ever seen it with catra, and all she feels is torn about whether she—
should help shadow weaver or not. (this is also where scorpia tells catra she knows catra always comes up here when she's upset. even though adora is gone, catra still seeks comfort from this spot)
meanwhile, george and lance show adora a second projection of the stars. here, adora is delighted to see the stars again, they still represent something hopeful, the same way adora (she-ra) brings hope to the people of etheria
(pt1) in the portal world, both catra + adora are in the center of the first moon—bc this exactly where catra wants adora to be (near her). the sky is lighter again, and the moons are both the same orange we see in ep 1
(pt 2) in the second picture, only catra is shown with the moon behind her, adora is completely outside of the moon's background. this is a direct contrast to the first episode, showing that there is a distance between the two of them
when adora does see real stars for the first time (since she was a baby) she’s still in the portal reality. adora is not supposed to be here, and neither are the stars. there is a moon behind adora in the fourth picture, which i find painfully ironic because catra is gone
the next time we see catra with the moon backdrop, the sky is dark again, pink/purple, + her mental state is even worse. she is also more distant from adora than she ever has been in her whole life. the moon isn’t even orange this time bc adora's absent? bc it's night? who knows
i don’t have anything substantial to add here except that catra is serving mad looks and it’s the first time the sky is completely orange without any distinct reds or purples. it looks more hazy, almost sunlike. if u have a theory u should tell me
at adora’s lowest (she has lost she-ra, her friendship with catra has been severed, and her friendship with glimmer has nearly been severed) the stars return to etheria. adora is shown with two moons, one close + one far, + i say that one represents glimmer, and the other catra
this scene!! still so iconic from the trailer!! after a flashback involving adora, catra looks out the window thinking about her. look, i know this more of a setting thing but the fact it's the first time catra can see stars and she thinks about adora?? i'm still gonna obsess
after looking at glimmer and bow reconcile, adora turns to the sky to think about CATRA, not the first ones/her past, or her destiny, but catra, her past + future. it’s an exact parallel to previous tweet, where catra is out in space thinking about making things right with adora
idk i just think it’s really sweet n poetic that once catra and adora are safe and able to be close to each other again, they’re framed by stars

i would like to thank @catradored for telling me that in major arcana tarot set, the moon represents the unconscious: dreams, fears, getting lost (catra) while the stars represent hope, light at the end of tunnel (adora +catradora) which is v fitting!!
also thank you @feralcatras for encouraging me to do this thread!! i had a lot of fun and now i'm perpetually emo
