Hey folks not used to driving in ice and snow who are getting it right now:
-Slow down
-Leave a large amount of stopping distance between you and the car ahead of you. No, bigger than that
-Pump the brakes when you have to brake
-If you start sliding, steer INTO the slide

Also just like braking doesn't work right if it's slippery, the same goes for acceleration. Don't try to pull out into traffic unless you have plenty of room. Sudden acceleration isn't going to work.
And again, *leave more room than you think* for braking. People already often drive too close even when there is no ice, which is why we get pileups. With ice? Do the mental math. If you're going 60 mph and have to rely on just distance to slow you down with no working brakes...
Then how far do you think that takes? Because that is what could happen if you catch a big patch of black ice and start sliding.
Oh, and if you're on foot and not used to ice? Be careful, watch your feet, and walk like a penguin. That is, no heel-to-toe action. Just plant your foot straight down
