This week is #heartunions week. For staff across the NHS, the latest wave of pandemic has been extraordinarily tough, with fatigue, burnout, rota gaps and overworking rife. Now more than ever, it is crucial to be part of a union for support & collective strength.
For doctors & medical students, this has (& continues to be) an incredibly challenging time, spanning our professional & personal lives.

Reps & staff at @TheBMA have been working flat out to support colleagues since the earliest days of the pandemic.
. @TheBMA has reps & trained staff in every Trust across the country, representing our >150,000 trade union members.
We are democratic: every leader is elected; our policies are written by members; our positions and actions are driven by this unparalleled & extensive network.
Throughout the pandemic, we have met regularly with every major stakeholder to discuss the crisis & influence change, from @NHSEngland, @DHSCgovuk, @AoMRC to @gmcuk. The voice of @TheBMA & our members has been ubiquitous across the media.
We are always looking for new reps to get involved - this is a key part of our work. It means working with other reps & staff to make tangible improvements to the lives of your colleagues - there has never been a better time to become a rep for your union. #heartunions
I first became involved as an F1, passionate about protecting the NHS & ensuring safe working conditions (which I saw lacking in shifts at work due to rota gaps). My role as a local rep then was just as important as my role now as national leader for >50,000 junior doctors.
Even if being a rep is not for you- our members are the lifeblood of @TheBMA. In joining, you are part of a greater collective, strengthening our negotiating power & our respected lobbying voice, locally in your workplace, & nationally with government & other stakeholders.
Most importantly, being part of a registered trade union provides legal protections & access to support at work, so that if you have issues with pay, rotas, training or contractual rights (to name only a few areas) our expert staff will be on hand to assist you #heartunions
Please RT this. If you are already a member or a rep - thank you. We are stronger together. Together in these times of crisis, we can drive towards better protections, rights & conditions for our colleagues, & in turn, for our patients. #OurNHSPeople
