Five years ago today, Sand to Snow, Mojave Trails and Castle Mountains national monuments were officially created, permanently protecting 1.8 million acres of spectacular desert wilderness and helping to form one of the world’s largest desert reserves. https://www.npca.org/articles/2804-happy-anniversary-to-a-hidden-gem
These new monuments protect a stunning landscape rich in Native American and Western history and home to famous Joshua tree forests, mountain lions and bighorn sheep.
Unfortunately, today California’s desert landscape is under threat as a number of important environmental protections are at risk of being rolled back as a result of actions taken in the final days of the former administration. https://www.npca.org/articles/2789-desert-plan-rollbacks-threaten-national-park-wildlife-communities-and
The rollbacks would also allow mining on the doorstep of Castle Mountains National Monument, risking the landscape and priceless cultural resources https://thehill.com/opinion/energy-environment/537915-three-reasons-why-biden-shouldnt-reopen-californias-desert-energy
Retweet to join us in urging @Interior to cancel these rollbacks and commit to continuing to protect the stunning landscapes, native wildlife and sacred tribal lands within the California desert. #drecp
