VIBE CHECK for the first 40 minutes of arguments from the president's attorneys on day four of the trial.

Republicans seem very receptive to the president's lawyers, unsurprisingly. Democrats? Not so much. Details below:
Only six Republicans were in the chamber during the prayer and pledge, and only roughly a dozen Democrats, meaning that they missed Chaplain Barry Black pray in his sonorous voice for "non-partisan patriotism" to infuse the Senate.
Hawley is back in the chamber. Warner and Markey had a brief chat when van der Veen first started talking, with Markey gesticulating in the gesturing to the dais. Tillis sat in Cassidy's seat for a while at the beginning and showed Sasse a paper. Sasse nodded and took notes.
Collins was very attentive to all of the videos, alternating between watching and taking notes.Scott (SC) and Sasse chatted, nodded and smiled frequently during van der Veen's arguments. Manchin looked back at Gillibrand at one point, who shook her head, her forehead in her palm.
McConnell was stoic as ever, looking like a wax statue of himself in Madame Tussauds with his hands clasped in his lap. Barasso and Graham nodded when van der Veen pointed out riots over the summer, although the lawyer did not mention the protests were due to police brutality.
Graham also nodded when van der Veen brought up the 2017 softball shooting, and Sanders was inscrutable except for his thumb running over his clasped hands. As van der Veen spoke, Shaheen was shaking her head repeatedly like a bobblehead.
Cramer laughed repeatedly during Schoen's argument, looking almost gleeful underneath his mask. Marshall nodded vigorously at one point, the reverse bobblehead of Shaheen. Whitehouse also appeared to be laughing at one video, like, "how ridiculous is this?"
Scott (SC) nodded when Schoen noted that Trump said "peacefully and patriotically." Sasse leaned forward, his elbows on his knees and his chin on his fists.

Reps. Mary Gay Scanlon and Al Green were in the gallery.
The president's lawyers are presenting many arguments without providing context, such as declining to acknowledge that protests over the summer were in response to police brutality and racial violence. Raskin is frowning and taking a lot of notes.
Anyway, senators don't appear to have received the "non-partisan patriotism" Chaplain Black prayed for.
